About the publication
We dig through specs, documentation and real use so you don't have to — and we tell you exactly how confident we are in every recommendation.
Why we exist
Espresso machines, grinders and brewers are sold with overlapping categories, inconsistent spec sheets and marketing language that doesn't always describe what happens in the cup. Two machines can list the same pump pressure and behave very differently once water, beans and technique are involved.
Dr. Coffee exists to make that comparison clearer. We organize products by the questions buyers actually ask, separate what's been verified from what's reported by the manufacturer, and explain trade-offs in plain language — so a decision that might otherwise take a dozen open browser tabs takes a few focused minutes.
We don't claim to be the largest or most authoritative voice in coffee. We're working to be a clear and honest one.

Take the quizOur editorial approach
Most of our coverage starts as research: manufacturer documentation, published specifications and patterns reported by owners. When our team has used a product directly, that review is labeled Hands-On Tested instead, with a dated note on what we observed.
We don't treat a spec sheet as a finding, and we don't publish a score when there isn't enough evidence to support one responsibly. The full rubric — what each evidence label requires and how scores are weighted — lives on its own page.

We try to answer the question behind the question — not just "what does this machine do," but "is this the right machine for how you actually make coffee."
Clear explanations of terms and trade-offs, without assuming prior knowledge of boilers or burrs.
Practical comparisons for upgrading a grinder, brewer or workflow you already know fairly well.
Specification depth and evidence labels for readers who want to verify claims, not just take our word.
Side-by-side tools built for weighing a handful of higher-end options against each other.
Independence and transparency
Dr. Coffee is not a retailer. Some links on this site go to stores and may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. That relationship never changes what we rate or recommend — scores are set before any offer is attached to a page.
We cover brands based on editorial judgment, not partnership status. The pages below spell out exactly how that works.
